Review of the China Railway Museum Zhengyangmen Branch, Beijing

The China Railway Museum's Zhengyangmen Branch, situated in the historic Zhengyangmen East Railway Station, offers a comprehensive look into over 130 years of China's railway development. The museum is organized into five sections, each detailing a distinct era or aspect of the nation's rail history.Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits, including scale models of trains, intricate replicas of railway stations, and detailed sand tables showcasing significant rail lines like the Qinghai-Tibet and Daqin Railways.

China's rapid expansion in railway infrastructure is insane. In just two decades, the country has constructed an extensive high-speed rail network, with the total length of operating high-speed rail tracks reaching 45,000 kilometers by the end of 2023. They did more in 20 years than Europe did over the past 150 years.

Given this impressive backdrop, it's fitting that the China Railway Museum Zhengyangmen Branch provides such an in-depth and well-curated experience. The museum not only highlights historical milestones but also showcases the technological advancements that have propelled China's railways into the future. While the museum is rich in information and artifacts, it is a downside that the collection primarily consist of models and photographs, with fewer full-sized locomotives on display. for that you have to go the branch of the museum a little out of the centre... i have not been there. yet.
I visited this museum (most recently) in July, 2017.
